N-Acetyl N-descarboxyethyl retigabine (D4) is a pharmaceutical drug that is used for the treatment of epilepsy. D4 binds to voltage-gated potassium channels and inhibits their opening, which leads to a decrease in neurotransmitter release from nerve cells. The mechanism by which D4 induces epileptic seizures is unclear but may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of GABA receptors in the brain.
