It is a chitin synthesis inhibitor and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. This compound also inhibits the production of cyclic AMP in cells and can be used as a mouthwash. 3-(2-Chlorophenyl)-5-methylisoxazole-4-carboxylic acid has been found to have impurities such as hydroxy, glycolic, succinic anhydride, and other contaminants.
