CAS:Itraconazole is an antimycotic agent that inhibits ergosterol synthesis by binding to the cytochrome P450 enzyme. It also inhibits the synthesis of other sterols, such as cholesterol and lanosterol. Itraconazole has been shown to be effective against infections caused by fungi and yeast, including candida, cryptococcus, histoplasma, blastomyces, and aspergillus. A long-term treatment with itraconazole can disrupt the normal balance of the microflora in the intestines, leading to gastrointestinal disturbances. Itraconazole is available as a tablet for oral administration.
