Lasalocid sódico es un antibiótico ionóforo de polietileno que se utiliza principalmente como aditivo alimentario en el ganado para promover el crecimiento y mejorar la eficiencia alimentaria. Se caracteriza por su capacidad para transportar cationes monovalentes, como sodio y potasio, a través de membranas biológicas, lo que puede alterar el equilibrio iónico e influir en los procesos celulares. Este compuesto se presenta típicamente como un polvo blanco a blanco sucio y es soluble en disolventes orgánicos, pero tiene una solubilidad limitada en agua. Lasalocid sódico exhibe propiedades antimicrobianas, particularmente contra ciertas bacterias Gram-positivas y protozoos, lo que lo hace efectivo en el control de la coccidiosis en aves de corral y otros animales de granja.
