CAS:Amitraz is a chemical pesticide that is used to control ticks and mites on livestock. Amitraz inhibits the activity of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, leading to increased levels of acetylcholine in the synapse. This causes an increase in muscle contractions, which leads to a decrease in locomotor activity. It has been shown that amitraz can be extracted using solid-phase microextraction and analysed using a polymerase chain reaction method. Amitraz is stable at room temperature but decomposes at high temperatures, so it should be stored at low temperatures (less than 25°C). The chemical stability of amitraz is affected by its interaction with water or other chemicals. Acetone, for example, can react with amitraz and cause it to break down into hydroxylamine and nitrosoamine derivatives. It has also been shown that boophilus ticks are resistant to amitraz because they have anhydrous sodium channels that allow them
