β-Endosulfán

β-Endosulfán es un compuesto organoclorado que pertenece a la clase de insecticidas y acaricidas. Es un estereoisómero del endosulfán, que es una mezcla de dos isómeros: α y β. Este compuesto se caracteriza por su forma sólida cristalina blanca y tiene una solubilidad relativamente baja en agua, pero es más soluble en disolventes orgánicos. β-Endosulfán exhibe un alto grado de lipofilia, lo que le permite bioacumularse en los tejidos grasos de los organismos. Actúa principalmente como un neurotóxico, interrumpiendo el funcionamiento normal del sistema nervioso en los insectos al inhibir la actividad del ácido gamma-aminobutírico (GABA), un neurotransmisor clave. Aunque es efectivo en el control de plagas, β-Endosulfán ha generado preocupaciones ambientales y de salud debido a su persistencia en el medio ambiente y su potencial toxicidad para organismos no objetivo, incluidos los humanos. Endosulfan II

Endosulfan II, an organochlorine insecticide and a stereoisomer of Endosulfan I, effectively targets various insects such as bollworms and tobacco budworms, with lethal doses (LD50s) of 4.14 and 4.95 mg/g, respectively. It interacts with GABA receptors in rat brain membranes, demonstrating an inhibition concentration (IC50) of 60 nM. Notably, Endosulfan II exhibits lower toxicity in rats compared to Endosulfan I, with LD50 values of 240 and 18 mg/kg, respectively.
