Fmoc-leucina, o fluorenilmetoxicarbonilo-leucina, es un derivado del aminoácido leucina, comúnmente utilizado en la síntesis de péptidos y en la síntesis de péptidos en fase sólida (SPPS). Presenta un grupo protector Fmoc que permite la desprotección selectiva durante el proceso de síntesis. La estructura de Fmoc-leucina incluye un grupo fluorenilmetoxicarbonilo unido al grupo amino de la leucina, lo que ayuda a estabilizar el aminoácido durante la síntesis y previene reacciones no deseadas. Fmoc-leucina es típicamente un sólido blanco a blanco sucio y es soluble en disolventes orgánicos como el dimetilformamida (DMF) y el dimetilsulfóxido (DMSO), pero menos soluble en agua. Su uso en la síntesis de péptidos es favorecido debido a la facilidad de eliminación del grupo Fmoc en condiciones básicas suaves, lo que permite la adición secuencial de aminoácidos. Además, Fmoc-leucina conserva las propiedades esenciales de la leucina, como su naturaleza hidrofóbica, lo que lo hace valioso en el diseño de péptidos con características estructurales y funcionales específicas.
