Piroxicam es un fármaco antiinflamatorio no esteroideo (AINE) utilizado principalmente por sus propiedades analgésicas y antiinflamatorias. Pertenece a la clase de AINEs oxicam y se prescribe comúnmente para el manejo del dolor y la inflamación asociada con condiciones como la artritis. Piroxicam actúa inhibiendo las enzimas ciclooxigenasas (COX), que desempeñan un papel crucial en la síntesis de prostaglandinas, compuestos que median la inflamación y el dolor. CAS:<p>Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has minimal toxicity. It is active against squamous cell cancer and other tumor cells, but not against normal cells. Piroxicam blocks the production of prostaglandins (PGE2) by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase. This inhibition leads to decreased inflammation and pain. Piroxicam also has anti-inflammatory properties and has been shown to be effective in rat models of rheumatoid arthritis. Piroxicam can cause a variety of side effects, including headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, rash, itching or dry skin.
