Ribavirina es un medicamento antiviral que se utiliza principalmente para tratar infecciones virales, particularmente la hepatitis C y el virus sincitial respiratorio (VSR). Se clasifica como un análogo de nucleósido, lo que significa que imita los bloques de construcción del ARN y el ADN, interfiriendo así con la replicación viral. La fórmula química de Ribavirina es C₁₁H₁₅N₄O₅P, y presenta una estructura similar a la guanosina que le permite inhibir la síntesis de ARN viral. It is a monocarboxylic acid derived from vitamin B2. Ribavirin inhibits viral replication by interfering with the function of RNA polymerase.
