Ácido (-)-3-aminobutírico, comúnmente conocido como ácido gamma-aminobutírico (GABA), es un aminoácido no proteico que sirve como un neurotransmisor clave en el sistema nervioso central. (R)-3-Aminobutanoic acid is a β-amino acid that is involved in the biosynthesis of other amino acids. It has been shown to have inhibitory effects on lymphoblast cells and to be an intermediate in the synthesis of dioncophylline, a calcium-mobilizing agent. (R)-3-Aminobutanoic acid is also an intermediate in the formation of crotonic acid, which is involved in the synthesis of butyric acid.
