It is a solid, white crystalline powder that is stable in cell culture and has no significant effects on chemical stability and basic proteins. 3BMPBA is also used as a crosslinker in polymeric film to increase mechanical strength and chemical resistance. 3BMPBA binds to basic proteins through ionic interactions, which can be disrupted by acid or base treatment. 3BMPBA may be used to prepare aqueous solutions of amino acids with good chemical stability for analytical purposes.
