CAS:<p>Ethyl 3-hydroxypent-4-enoate is an enantiomer of crotylboration. It is a stepwise, chemoenzymatic, stereoselective synthesis of azide from chiral diols such as D-mannitol. This process involves the reaction of an alcohol with sodium azide in the presence of a base and solvent to give the corresponding hydrazone. The hydrazone reacts with crotylborane to form an epoxide with two adjacent hydroxy groups. This epoxide can then be reduced to an alcohol or oxidized to a ketone, both of which are valuable synthetic intermediates that can be used in organic chemistry.
