4-[(4-Formylphenoxy)methyl]benzoic acid is a synthetic antimicrobial agent that has antibacterial effects. It is active against Staphylococcus epidermidis and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), but not against methicillin-sensitive strains. 4-[(4-formylphenoxy)methyl]benzoic acid also has an inhibitory effect on the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. This compound binds to the bacterial ribosome, preventing the protein synthesis necessary for cell division and growth.
