CAS:Demecolcine is a substance that is found in plants. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on human cells and to inhibit the growth of hl-60 cells by interfering with microtubule formation. Demecolcine binds to the microtubules, preventing them from polymerizing and causing mitotic arrest in cell cycle. Demecolcine also blocks the production of tubulin, which are proteins that are needed for microtubule formation. This drug has been shown to be effective against colchicine-resistant cells that are resistant to other cytotoxic agents as well.
