Descripción:
Carbonato de sodio, comúnmente conocido como ceniza de soda o carbonato de sodio, es un compuesto inorgánico con la fórmula química Na2CO3. Aparece como un sólido cristalino blanco que es higroscópico, lo que significa que puede absorber humedad del aire. Carbonato de sodio es altamente soluble en agua, produciendo una solución alcalina con un pH típicamente superior a 11. Se utiliza principalmente en la fabricación de vidrio, como regulador de pH en piscinas y como agente de limpieza en varios productos domésticos. El compuesto también se utiliza en la producción de bicarbonato de sodio y en varios procesos químicos. Carbonato de sodio puede ser producido a través del proceso Solvay o extraído de fuentes naturales como la trona. Se considera generalmente seguro para su uso en aplicaciones alimentarias e industriales, aunque puede causar irritación en la piel y los ojos al contacto. En términos de impacto ambiental, Carbonato de sodio es no tóxico y biodegradable, lo que lo convierte en una opción favorable en muchas aplicaciones.
