Kirromicina es un compuesto antibiótico que pertenece a la clase de los macrólidos, conocido específicamente por su actividad contra ciertas cepas bacterianas. Es producido por la bacteria *Micromonospora purpurea* y exhibe un mecanismo de acción único al inhibir la síntesis de proteínas en las bacterias. Kirromicina se une a la subunidad ribosómica, interfiriendo con el paso de translocación durante la traducción, lo que finalmente detiene el crecimiento bacteriano. Este compuesto se caracteriza por su compleja estructura de macrólido, que incluye un gran anillo de lactona y varios grupos funcionales que contribuyen a su actividad biológica. Kirromycin from Streptomyces collinus
CAS:Kirromycin is a hydroxylated tetracycline antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis. It is used as a chemotherapeutic treatment against microbial infections, and has been shown to be effective against Streptomyces collinus. Kirromycin is also an inhibitor of bacterial ribosome activity, which can lead to the death of bacteria. This compound binds to the 30S subunit of the ribosome and prevents the attachment of amino acids to the nascent polypeptide chain during protein synthesis.
