(±)-Clorhidrato de isoproterenol es una catecolamina sintética y un agonista beta-adrenérgico no selectivo, utilizado principalmente en entornos médicos por sus efectos broncodilatadores. Es un polvo cristalino blanco a blanco amarillento que es soluble en agua y alcohol, lo que lo hace adecuado para la administración intravenosa o por inhalación. El compuesto presenta un centro quiral, resultando en dos enantiómeros; sin embargo, la mezcla racémica se utiliza comúnmente en aplicaciones clínicas. El isoproterenol actúa estimulando los receptores adrenérgicos beta-1 y beta-2, lo que lleva a un aumento de la frecuencia cardíaca, una mejora en el gasto cardíaco y la relajación del músculo liso bronquial.
