4-Oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-2-carboxylic acid is a copper salt that is the active compound in lipase. It is inexpensively prepared by heating the corresponding ester with sodium hydroxide in an organic solvent. 4-Oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-2-carboxylic acid inhibits alkali metal and phosphine ligands and can be used as a source of chlorine atoms. The compound has been shown to have two isomers: one with a chlorine atom and one with fluorine.
