Pregna-1,4-dieno-3,20-diona, 6-fluoro-11,17,21-trihidroxi-16-metilo-, comúnmente conocido como Fluocinolona acetonida, es un corticosteroide sintético con propiedades antiinflamatorias e inmunosupresoras. Paramethasone is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and other autoimmune disorders. Its mechanism of action is not fully understood but it is believed to act by suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Paramethasone has been shown to be effective against cervical cancer cells and alopecia areata. This drug also has toxic effects on liver cells at high doses. The toxicity of paramethasone has been studied in experimental models and humans; it appears to be less toxic than other steroids when given orally or systemically. The most common side effect with this drug is weight gain, which may be due to an increase in fat tissue.
