It can be synthesized by reacting thiamin hydrochloride with nitric acid. Thiamine nitrate has been shown to protect against neuronal death in the brain and restores cognitive function in patients with Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome due to its ability to target enzymes involved in energy metabolism and calcium ion homeostasis.
