Propentofylline is a drug that has been shown to be neuroprotective in experimental models of stroke and brain injury. It inhibits glutamate-induced neuronal death by inhibiting the activation of nuclear DNA, leading to suppression of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling pathways.
