It has been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, such as colony-stimulating factor (CSF), in lung cells and to have an inhibitory effect on microbial biotransformation. Beclomethasone 17-propionate can be used to treat bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other respiratory diseases. The drug is rapidly absorbed into the cell culture after inhalation and has a high uptake rate. However, it is not active when given orally due to its poor solubility in water or lipid membranes.
