It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cutaneous lesions in mice and rats. The compound has also been found to be effective against renal lesions (caused by cevimeline hydrochloride) in rats. The compound has a high inhibitory dose as it binds tightly with divalent metal ions such as magnesium, calcium, and zinc.
