Cefmetazol sódico es un antibiótico cefalosporínico semisintético, clasificado dentro del grupo de antibióticos beta-lactámicos. Se utiliza principalmente por su actividad antibacteriana de amplio espectro contra diversas bacterias Gram-positivas y Gram-negativas. El cefmetazol actúa inhibiendo la síntesis de la pared celular bacteriana, lo que lleva a la lisis y muerte celular. El compuesto se administra típicamente por inyección y es eficaz en el tratamiento de infecciones como infecciones del tracto respiratorio, infecciones de la piel e infecciones del tracto urinario. Se caracteriza por su estabilidad contra ciertas beta-lactamasas, lo que mejora su eficacia contra cepas bacterianas resistentes. Cefmetazole sodium is a penicillin-type antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It binds to the penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition, preventing the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Cefmetazole sodium has been shown to be active against a wide variety of bacteria, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The drug's activity against most strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been confirmed. Cefmetazole sodium is used to treat infectious diseases such as pneumonia and urinary tract infections. Drug interactions are possible, but not well understood at this time.
