Descripción:
Teofilina es un compuesto de metilxantina que se encuentra de forma natural, principalmente en las hojas de té y en el cacao. Se clasifica como un broncodilatador, lo que significa que ayuda a relajar y abrir las vías respiratorias en los pulmones, siendo útil en el tratamiento de enfermedades respiratorias como el asma y la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC). La fórmula química de Teofilina es C7H8N4O2, y tiene un peso molecular de aproximadamente 180.17 g/mol. Teofilina presenta una solubilidad moderada en agua y es más soluble en disolventes orgánicos. Su estructura presenta un sistema de anillo similar a la purina, lo que contribuye a su actividad biológica. Teofilina actúa inhibiendo las enzimas fosfodiesterasa, lo que lleva a un aumento de los niveles de AMP cíclico, promoviendo la relajación del músculo liso bronquial.
