Misoprostol is also used in nephrology dialysis to decrease blood pressure, heart rate, and fluid retention in patients with congestive heart failure. It has been shown that misoprostol can be used to prevent preterm labor in pregnant women with a statistically significant reduction in the risk of miscarriage, preterm birth, and neonatal death. It has been shown that misoprostol can be administered orally or vaginally for the prevention of preterm labor. The pharmacokinetic properties of misoprostol are dose-dependent; higher doses result in faster absorption. Clinical relevance is dependent on the concentration-time curve, which determines how quickly the drug reaches its peak concentration.
