Descripción:
Tiocianato de guanidina es un sólido incoloro e higroscópico con la fórmula química CH5N3S. Se conoce principalmente por su papel como agente caotrópico, que interrumpe los enlaces de hidrógeno en el agua y las proteínas, lo que lo hace útil en biología molecular, particularmente en la extracción de ácidos nucleicos. La sustancia es soluble en agua y tiene una solubilidad relativamente alta en disolventes orgánicos, lo que mejora su utilidad en diversas aplicaciones bioquímicas. Tiocianato de guanidina también se caracteriza por su capacidad para desnaturalizar proteínas, facilitando la liberación de ácidos nucleicos de estructuras celulares. Tiene una toxicidad relativamente baja, pero debe manejarse con cuidado debido a sus posibles propiedades irritantes.
