It has a redox potential of 0.38 V, which is higher than that of anhydrous sodium (0.28 V) and can be used as an oxidation catalyst to treat wastewater. Manganese carbonate can be synthesized by the reaction between magnesium salt and particle or zirconium oxide in the presence of oxygen gas. The product is usually white in color and has a particle size of about 3 μm.
