(-)-Tetraciclina es un antibiótico de amplio espectro que pertenece a la clase de las tetraciclinas, caracterizado por su capacidad para inhibir la síntesis de proteínas bacterianas. Se deriva de la bacteria Streptomyces aureofaciens y es conocido por su efectividad contra una amplia gama de bacterias grampositivas y gramnegativas. La estructura química de (-)-Tetraciclina presenta un sistema de cuatro anillos con múltiples grupos funcionales, incluidos grupos hidroxilo y dimetilamina, que contribuyen a su solubilidad y actividad biológica.
