1,2-Dilauroyl ethylene glycol is a lipid molecule that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium perfringens. 1,2-Dilauroyl ethylene glycol has also been shown to have anti-cancer properties in vitro and in vivo. The hydroxyl group on the fatty acid side chain creates a site for hydrogen bonding with water molecules, which may contribute to its effectiveness against skin cancer cells.
