4'-Hydroxy-3'-nitroacetophenone is a synthetic compound that has been used as an xanthine oxidase inhibitor. It has been shown to reversibly inhibit xanthine oxidase and prevent the accumulation of toxic metabolites that are produced by this enzyme. 4'-Hydroxy-3'-nitroacetophenone also inhibits the activities of other enzymes, such as covalent adducts with protein molecules and transfer reactions.
