Clofibrato es un compuesto sintético clasificado como un fibrato, utilizado principalmente como un agente reductor de lípidos en el tratamiento de la hiperlipidemia. Su fórmula química es C12H15ClO3, y presenta una estructura de anillo aromático clorado, que contribuye a sus propiedades farmacológicas. Clofibrato funciona activando los receptores activados por proliferadores de peroxisomas (PPARs), lo que lleva a un aumento de la oxidación de ácidos grasos y a una reducción de los niveles de triglicéridos en el torrente sanguíneo.
