The absence of this binding makes it useful for diagnosis. The measurement of serum cortisol levels can be used to diagnose these deficiencies as well, but this test is less specific than the 21-deoxycortisol assay. In addition, there are significant interactions with other drugs that may affect the accuracy of these measurements.
