It has been shown to have anti-cancer properties by blocking the cell cycle at the G2/M phase. The red shift of the fluorescence spectrum is due to the presence of two isomeric forms that have different optical properties. H-Trp-Phe-OH has been analysed for its effects on cancer cells and was found to inhibit growth and induce apoptosis in mononuclear leukemia cells.
