CAS:7,8-Dihydro-biopterin is a cofactor for the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase that converts phenylalanine to tyrosine. It is also an essential cofactor for the enzymes dopamine b-hydroxylase and aromatic amino acid decarboxylase, which are involved in the synthesis of neurotransmitters. 7,8-Dihydro-biopterin has been shown to regulate transcriptional activities by interacting with DNA polymerase alpha and beta. This interaction leads to changes in enzyme activities such as dihydrobiopterin reductase and biopterin oxidoreductase. Structural analysis of 7,8-dihydrobiopterin has shown that it contains a basic protein domain and a tetrahydrobiopterin domain. The basic protein domain interacts with some other proteins and is responsible for its stability.
