8-Methylbicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1(6),2,4-trien-7-one
CAS:8-Methylbicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1(6),2,4-trien-7-one is a ligand that can stabilize an enolate by binding to the carbonyl carbon in a nonpolar solvent. This process is called termination and involves phosphine as a stabilizing agent. The compound also binds to the carbonyl oxygen and protonates the enolate, which facilitates bond cleavage of the C=O bond and leads to reductive elimination of HX (X = Cl, Br). 8-Methylbicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1(6),2,4-trien-7-one has shown selectivity for reactions with electron releasing groups on the substrate side of the reaction (e.g., alcohols) over reactions with electron withdrawing groups on the other side (e.g., amines).
