Ivermectin is a drug that belongs to the anthelmintic class of drugs. It is active against roundworms, pinworms, and hookworms. Ivermectin has been shown to have an effect on autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis by inhibiting the inflammatory response. The drug has been shown to inhibit matrix metalloproteinases in vitro and in vivo.
