Descripción:
Estroncio es un elemento químico con el símbolo Sr y el número atómico 38. Es un metal alcalino terroso blando y de color blanco plateado que es altamente reactivo, especialmente con el agua y el aire, formando una capa de óxido protectora. Estroncio se encuentra típicamente en la naturaleza en formas minerales, como la celestina y la estrontianita. Tiene un punto de fusión y un punto de ebullición relativamente bajos en comparación con muchos otros metales. Estroncio es conocido por su llama roja brillante cuando se quema, lo que lo hace útil en pirotécnica y fuegos artificiales. En términos de importancia biológica, Estroncio es similar al calcio y puede incorporarse en los huesos, lo que tiene implicaciones tanto para la salud como para estudios ambientales. Los compuestos de Estroncio, como el carbonato de Estroncio y el sulfato de Estroncio, se utilizan en diversas aplicaciones, incluyendo en la producción de imanes de ferrita y en el campo médico para ciertos tratamientos. Debido a su reactividad, Estroncio debe manejarse con cuidado, generalmente almacenado bajo aceite o en una atmósfera inerte para prevenir la oxidación.
