Descripción:
Itrio es un elemento metálico plateado con el número atómico 39 y se clasifica como un metal de transición en la tabla periódica. Es parte del grupo de elementos de tierras raras y es conocido por su alto punto de fusión y excelente estabilidad térmica. Itrio es relativamente estable en el aire, formando una capa de óxido protectora que previene la oxidación adicional. Se encuentra típicamente en minerales como xenotima y monacita y se extrae principalmente a través de varios procesos químicos. Itrio exhibe una variedad de estados de oxidación, siendo +3 el más común en compuestos. Se utiliza en diversas aplicaciones, incluidos fósforos para tubos de televisión en color y luces LED, superconductores y como agente de aleación en metales para mejorar la resistencia y la resistencia a la corrosión. Además, los compuestos de Itrio se utilizan en aplicaciones médicas, particularmente en el tratamiento del cáncer a través de radioisótopos.
