Descripción:
Indio es un metal post-transición con el símbolo químico "In" y el número CAS 7440-74-6. Se caracteriza por su apariencia blanco plateada y es relativamente blando, maleable y dúctil, lo que le permite ser fácilmente moldeado y formado. Indio tiene un bajo punto de fusión en comparación con muchos metales, lo que lo hace útil en diversas aplicaciones, incluyendo soldadura y electrónica. Exhibe una propiedad única de expandirse al solidificarse, lo cual es raro entre los metales. Indio se encuentra principalmente en minerales de zinc y a menudo se extrae como un subproducto del refinado de zinc. Químicamente, se sabe que tiene un estado de oxidación +1 y +3, siendo el estado +3 más estable en compuestos. Indio es no tóxico y tiene aplicaciones en la producción de óxido de estaño Indio (ITO), que se utiliza ampliamente en pantallas táctiles y pantallas de panel plano. Además, juega un papel en el desarrollo de ciertas aleaciones y se está investigando para posibles usos en células solares y otras tecnologías avanzadas.
