terc-butanol, también conocido como 2-metilpropan-2-ol, es un líquido incoloro y flamable con un olor característico a alcohol. Se clasifica como un alcohol terciario debido a la presencia de un grupo hidroxilo (-OH) unido a un átomo de carbono que está conectado a otros tres átomos de carbono. Esta estructura contribuye a su reactividad relativamente baja en comparación con los alcoholes primarios y secundarios. terc-butanol es soluble en agua y sirve como disolvente para varios compuestos orgánicos, lo que lo hace útil en la síntesis química y aplicaciones industriales. Tiene un punto de ebullición y presión de vapor moderados, lo que permite que se evapore fácilmente a temperatura ambiente.
