CAS:Tamoxifen N-oxide is a prodrug of tamoxifen, which is a drug used for the treatment and prevention of breast cancer. Tamoxifen N-oxide has been shown to have genotoxic effects in human liver cells. The deuterium isotope effect on the metabolism of tamoxifen N-oxide was studied using unlabelled and labelled substrates. The results showed that it is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes, mainly CYP3A4. The optimum pH for activity of this enzyme is 7.8 while the optimum pH for activity of CYP2D6 is 8.5.
