CAS:Glycolic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is used as a chemical peeling agent for the treatment of hyperkeratotic skin disorders. This product has been shown to inhibit the transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in maternal blood, which may be due to its ability to form glycolate from glucose and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. Glycolic acid inhibits the production of malonic acid by inhibiting the enzyme malonate decarboxylase, which converts malonic acid into succinic acid. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to an accumulation of intracellular glycolate and increased levels of succinic acid in cells. Glycolic acid also inhibits dapagliflozin, an inhibitor of sodium-dependent glucose transport proteins, suggesting that it may have pharmacological effects on diabetes mellitus.
