2-(2-Chlorophenyl)piperazine is a 5-HT2 receptor antagonist that has been shown to have beneficial effects on the symptoms of depression. It has been shown to be an agonist at 5-HT2C receptors and an antagonist at 5-HT2A receptors, although it is not selective for either. 2-(2-Chlorophenyl)piperazine has been shown to have antagonistic effects on the release of serotonin and dopamine in rat brain cells, which may be due to its interactions with the 5-HT1B receptor.
