Oct-7-en-1-amine is a chemical compound that can be synthesized by reductive amination of oct-7-en-1-ol. It has been used as a hydrogenation catalyst in the synthesis of polymers, including poly(ethylene terephthalate) and polyurethanes. Oct-7-en-1-amine has also been used to reduce aromatic anions and nitro groups to their corresponding alcohols. This compound is also able to reduce imines to amines with hydrogen gas as a reducing agent, which makes it useful for the production of pharmaceuticals.
