Teobromina es un alcaloide que se encuentra de forma natural principalmente en los granos de cacao, hojas de té y ciertas otras plantas. Se clasifica como una metilxantina, que es un grupo de compuestos que también incluye cafeína y teofilina. Theobromine has been shown to inhibit the activity of certain enzymes, including phosphodiesterase and adenosine deaminase. This drug also inhibits the activity of some cytochrome P450 enzymes. Theobromine has also been shown to have a diuretic effect on rat liver microsomes.
