Voglibosa es un inhibidor de la alfa-glucosidasa que se utiliza principalmente en el manejo de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Funciona retrasando la absorción de carbohidratos del intestino, reduciendo así los niveles de glucosa en sangre postprandial. Químicamente, Voglibosa es un derivado del producto natural mio-inositol y se clasifica como un pseudodisacárido. Su estructura presenta una configuración única que le permite inhibir competitivamente la enzima alfa-glucosidasa, responsable de descomponer carbohidratos complejos en azúcares simples. Voglibosa se administra típicamente por vía oral y a menudo se utiliza junto con otros medicamentos antidiabéticos para mejorar el control glucémico. La sustancia generalmente es bien tolerada, aunque puede causar efectos secundarios gastrointestinales como flatulencia y diarrea debido a carbohidratos no digeridos en los intestinos.
