Hydrocodone has been shown to have higher affinity for mu-opioid receptors than other opioids such as morphine, and it also has less affinity for kappa- and delta-receptors. Hydrocodone has a concentration–time curve that can be described by three phases: an initial rapid elimination phase, followed by a slower elimination phase with a plateau effect, and finally an elimination phase with decreasing concentrations.
