5-Bromo-2-(tert-butoxy)pyridine is a condensation product of 5-bromopyridine and 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl chloride. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. In these reactions, 5-bromo-2-(tert-butoxy)pyridine is converted to the corresponding N,N′-disubstituted piperazine by means of catalyzed condensation with ammonia or an amine. The reaction can be carried out in aprotic solvents such as acetonitrile or DMF. The product obtained from this reaction has been shown to be an oligomerization agent for alkyl halides and a coupling agent for the production of heterocyclic compounds.
