It is an organosilicon compound that binds to camp levels and can be used for detection of cancer in cells, tissues, and organs. SBI-115 is also able to bind to unique spatially defined regions of chromosomes in individual cells. This binding causes changes in gene expression, which are detected by a fluorescence microscope. The molecule has been shown to be sensitive and selective for the detection of tumor cells with TP53 mutations (a mutation in the TP53 tumor suppressor gene).
